The Functional
Padel Academy
A subscription-based online academy built around how padel is actually played.
Not another passive coaching library, but a performance system designed to help players improve through match play, better decision-making and a clearer understanding of the game.
Why Most Coaching Falls Short
The Functional Approach
Weekly Performance Themes
Each week inside the academy focuses on one clear performance theme designed to improve how you play in real matches.
The goal is simple: take one idea into the games you are already playing, apply it immediately, and begin improving through real competition.
This is not a fixed course or a system that requires perfect practice conditions.
Most players improve through matches, not through hours of isolated drilling, so every weekly theme is designed to hold up in live play.
Match Play Application
A weekly theme you can take straight into your next match. Practical and immediately usable.
Pillar Support
Each theme is supported by technical, tactical, mental and physical insights that help it hold up under pressure.
Optional Practice
Simple partner-based tasks for players who want extra repetition and more focused work.
Built Around Competition
Everything is designed to support match play, not replace it.
What Else Is Included
Alongside the weekly themes, members also have access to a growing library of coaching content designed to support different areas of the game.
This is continuously evolving, with new content added over time.
Technical Library
Breakdowns and guidance to help you understand and develop key areas of your game.
Tactical Insights
Learn how to approach situations, patterns of play and decision-making in matches.
Partner Training
Simple ideas and tasks you can use with another player to practise more effectively.
Ongoing Content
New lessons, ideas and examples added regularly as the academy continues to grow.
Most players do not spend hours feeding balls.
They play matches. They compete. They learn inside live situations.
The academy is built around that reality.
If you have time for extra work, the structure is there. If not, the weekly theme still gives you something clear to improve immediately.
Inside the Academy
A coaching environment built around real match situations, shared experiences and ongoing feedback. Not just content, an active way to learn the game.

Weekly Themes & Coaching
Follow weekly performance themes, explore coaching breakdowns and apply ideas directly to your own matches.
Five Interlocking Pillars
The academy is built around five connected pillars that work together as one system. They are designed to make the game feel clearer, simpler and more repeatable under pressure.
Over time, these pillars help players recognise situations faster, trust their decisions and perform more consistently in matches.
Game Understanding & Emotional Control
Understand how padel is actually won.
Reduce emotional volatility, manage momentum and make clearer decisions under pressure.
Padel-Specific Functions
Learn what each ball needs to achieve, not just how to hit it.
Focus on solving problems, creating space and applying pressure in real situations.
Transferable Skills
Use the skills you already have.
Your background in other sports becomes an advantage, helping learning feel more natural and less overloaded.
Level-Layered Technique
Technique is developed to support performance, not lead it.
The same tasks apply at every level, only the level of execution changes.
Prehab & Rehab
Stay available to play.
Simple routines protect your body, support consistency and allow long-term improvement.
Ant Hardman
The academy is built by Ant Hardman, whose coaching background spans over 25 years in elite player development and high-performance doubles.
He has worked with players across every stage of the game, including coaching Wimbledon champion and former world number one Neal Skupski through a key period of his development.
His reputation was built on understanding how matches are actually won through positioning, decision-making, patterns of play and emotional control under pressure.
That same thinking now forms the foundation of his work in padel.
Now fully immersed in padel as both a coach and player, Ant is focused on building a coaching system that reflects how the game is played today and where it is heading.
His approach is not based on isolated technique, but on helping players understand the game more clearly, make better decisions and develop skills that hold up when it matters most.
The goal is simple: to build better players through better understanding of the game.
